Nafplio - oder auch altgriechisch Nauplia - ist die schönste Stadt
Griechenlands - zumindest sind seine Bewohner davon überzeugt,
und tausende Touristen aus aller Welt geben ihnen Recht.
Dabei sind die Stadt und ihre schöne Umgebung
bisher vom Massentourismus verschont geblieben,
glücklicherweise. Was bleibt, ist ein Ort zum Bummeln
und Schlemmen, denn kaum in einer anderen
kleinen griechischen Stadt gibt es so viele Tavernen.
  
Nafplio - the most beautiful town of Greece - at least the Nafpliotes are convinced of that. Thousands of tourists from all over the world agree with them. By the way the town and the picturesque environs fortunately had been spared from the modern mass tourism. Nafplio remains as a town to go for a stroll and to gormandize. May be there is no other little town in Greece with more tavernas.

Venezianisch, türkisch, griechisch... viele Herrscher haben ihre Spuren an der Festung Palamidi hinterlassen, die nachts illuminiert ist (oben und rechts)

Venentian, Turkish, Greek - many rulers left their traces on the fortress Palamidi which is illuminated at night.
       

Nafplio ist eine Stadt mit viel venezianischem Charm. Typisch sind die vielen steinernen Treppen in der Altstadt. Die Staikopoulou-Straße kann man durchaus als Tavernengasse bezeichnen (rechts).

Nafplio is a town with a lot of ventian charm. Typical are many old stony stairs in the old part of the town. The Staikopoulou street is beeing called the taverna-street.

Beim Musikfestival von Nafplio gibt es stets auch ein Konzert auf der Platia Aghios Georgios (rechts) und seit 2004 auch wieder auf der Festung Bourtzi.

In dieser ehemaligen türkischen Moschee war das erste Parlament des neuen unabhängigen Griechenlands, das Gebäude rechts war eine venezianische Kaserne und beherbergt heute das archäologische Museum.

In this former Turkish mosque was the first parliament of the new independent Greece. The buidling on the right side had been a Venetian barracks and is now the archeological museum of Nafplio.

Im Haus des ersten Parlaments - es trägt den Namen "Vouleftiko" - finden nach umfangreicher Rekonstruktion kulturelle Veranstaltungen statt.

The house of the first parliament has been reconstructed. It is now a nice place for cultural events.
